I guess when I asked "why does there need to be repercussions" I already knew the answer.
When we act in such a way that causes us to experience guilt we set off a process of punishment against ourselves. That's basically my understanding of Karma. If we can act without guilt there is no karma, no self punishment.
I really hate the word Karma. We in the West can never fully understand the concept as it's an Eastern concept that has been twisted and changed by various paths (multiple versions of Hindu and Buddhist) since it was first adopted in Vedic teachings some 5,000 years ago.

Actually, yes that is my opinion.
If we have no guilt then who is there to "punish" us?
I'm not talking about committing some crime and being brought to justice by the law, yada yada yada..... I'm talking about energy weaving. If I cast a spell to ......give you gas for week. If I'm happy about that and feel no guilt (and you don't know it was me that did it)....who's to punish me?

I've always thought that to, which is pretty much how I survived the eighth grade in a sense. Someone kept breaking in my locker and stealing my money, but I didn't have concrete evidence till the end of the schoo year, where he moved away. (So I was forced to carry important things in my abnormally large pockets) Then I sent him some bad energy and his own locker kept sticking and he got detention. No idea it was me, and I felt he deserved it, so no punishment.

For me, although I sometimes use "karma" as a shorthand term, what is the core in my belief system is the Law of Return. The Law of Return (like karma in its true sense) isn't a punishing force. It is merely a reaction.... that actions create reactions and energy creates ripples. Human guilt doesn't factor into that equation at all.
One challenge with the law of return can be that it seems to take odd lengths of time for it to come home to roost and resolve. It can take so long that it may be difficult to realize what sent it outright in the first place when it comes back. But it isn't just some cosmic whacking stick... it also brings back benefits more amazing than imaginable. (And for whatever reason, those benefits can be manipulated to come back faster than more negative backlash.)

Yes, I understand what it is you refer to. All to often when this topic is discussed we tend to focus on the aspect of reward and punishment and the various concepts of guilt and "karma". People have touched on the idea of cause and effect, action / reaction, but that tends to generate a multitude of view points as well.
Some time ago, I wrote about energy weaving being like tossing a stone into a pool of water. Ripples radiate out from that point of impact (or deed of weaving) Eventually, these ripples contact objects or the shoreline and "bounce" back. The distance they travel determine the energy that is returned from the various points of contact, but in varying degrees there is a return of energy. Some of it may fully return to the point of "creation" and some may not. In any event the balance is maintained and the surface of the water settles back to a calm state.
That being said, we need to be aware that in everything we do in our daily activities generates some form of energy that is sent out, consciously or not. And there is energy flowing around us and at us, generated by us and others. Some of these energies are negative and some are positive. If we are aware of these energies and strive to maintain a balance in all things, then we don't need to be "victims" (for lack of a better word) of these energies rather observers. Going back to the pond analogy, rather than being an island with the waves crashing into us, be a cork and allow the waves to push under or around us.
Sorry if that sounds like preaching

Preach away, WS. To me, accepting the possible repercussions of one's actions is way different than accepting guilt. Guilt allows and draws negativity that might otherwise not be warrented.

Going back to the pond analogy, rather than being an island with the waves crashing into us, be a cork and allow the waves to push under or around us. I so want to be that cork... Thanks to my parents I "learned" explosive negative knee-jerk reactions to things...spite and revenge are talents I have perfected...it took me a long time to understand this was working against me in catastrophic ways... I finally, learned how to stop and redirect my negative response...and simply let go allow the universe to settle up with the person who has harmed me...(I've seen some of the settling up...and it was way better than anything I could have done ) But mostly, I just do it more to "break the cycle" and not teach my son the behaviors I had to work very hard to overcome... But, I cannot say I would be this way if someone was to harm my son...that is a whole other set of instincts that would kick in...

I believe in the law of three, and I also believe that the cosmos and the universal energies answer any spell or hex we perform, without our permission. They are separate and living entities of their own and I believe they follow not only the natural order of things, but the law of three as well. I believe that the law of three is part of natural order- i.e., what you send out will come back to you threefold. I believe that any repurcussion(s) that come back are dealt out by the cosmos, universal energies and the law of three. I could be wrong, but, I know it's my experience thus far.
I think the line is crossed when another intends and carries out harm to your person or your loved ones, in which case the entities I've said above join together and cause the natural order of the spell/hex.
God! I hope this makes sense. I know what I'm "trying" to say.

I understand you valkyrievoice. My beliefs have changed dramatically over the years and I'm at a point now where I put complete faith that the universe knows what it is doing. The greatest magic we perform is the simple acts and thoughts we put out into the universe day to day every day. If you are a decent, nice person then your "reward" shall be a feeling of peace and contentment and happiness in life. If you are an angry bitter person then you will not know this feeling of peace and love but instead will feel negative feelings which in turn will make you sad and bitter. So to sum it up - you will get what you put out, it's just not always in the ways that we think.

If you believe in the law of three, then for you it works. However I believe that it works because you make it so, not do to some hex police in the cosmos.

If you believe in the law of three, then for you it works. However I believe that it works because you make it so, not do to some hex police in the cosmos. We believe that to be true. My Grandmother, many years ago, told me of the law of three, as a means to keep the newly invented Wiccan faith from doing any harm. She made a point of insisting that I do not believe in such a thing, as belief in control controls us.
