What makes a person want to become a witch?
In my case it has always been with me since a little girl, though because i was raised in a catholic enviroment i dismissed it, then 8 years ago something dramatic happened in my life and i started to seek answers for things, many wonderful enlightening things started to happen to me but still i dismissed it i was so scared about being a witch, but as time has gone on i have finally accepted the fact, though i am taking it slowly and now i am comfortable in the knowledge that i am going to be ME.

What makes a person want to become a witch? Why did you decide to become a witch? What do you get out of being a witch? I like this kind of simple question because reading the replies helps you understand people better. Helps you to analyse your own understanding as well. I think people want to become a witch if they feel an intimate closeness or oneness with nature. So intimate you know desire to intefract with it. I decided to become a witch after becoming a lodger to a woman I later discovered was a witch. She noted my interest in occult and spiritual matters and started lending me books. Later she let me look through her library myself and I discovered books on magic, spiritual healing and other subjects I hsadn't considered. I got interested enough to find my focus on that subject alone. In time she taught me visualisation and meditation, going on to develop some psychic ability and going through some basic ritual. I felt very drawn to her Goddess, Hecate and there began my first altar and my beliefs. As a witch I get a sense of being a part of the earth rather than a creature existing on it. My focus shifted eventually and my patron deity became Cerridwen, and as a witch, I feel I can make some minor difference as an ambassador of The Goddess. Hope I haven't rambled on too incoherently

What makes a person want to become a witch?
Well, I wouldn't really know what it is that makes other people want to become a witch, but I would think that it's a sort of instinctual attraction to Nature and her secrets.
For me, I have always been a witch, even though I may not have known it my entire life. I myself had strayed from a Natural path during my life and when I did come to realize it, Wicca just sort of found me and I accepted Her embrace.
Why did you decide to become a witch? Like I said before, my mind was looking for it, and when it found me, I did not resist. ^^
What do you get out of being a witch? Peace of mind, an understanding of myself, and a life-style that makes sense. ^^ To put it simply.

What makes a person want to become a witch? They follow what their heart dictates and nothing else will stand in their way - hopefully.
Why did you decide to become a witch? I did not make this decision consciously. It was there from the beginning, constantly drawing me toward this destination. I've just been on the journey toward my own destiny since then. There was no choice that would fit for me as I never could settle for second best. It always had to be the first choice for me and no other. I grow restless and distracted otherwise.
What do you get from being a witch? Peace within. A greater understanding of the world and the people within it. Mankind is unkind generally, but those of pagan faiths are true to themselves and others. These has been without exception true of everyone I've met of this community thus far. We are free within ourselves and within our hearts, enjoy the company of others who are of like minds or not and judge none.

What Makes a person want to become a Witch?
For me it was a quest for self assertion and personal responsibility which led me to Vivianne Crowley's "Wicca" - then upon reading it I felt a sense of "coming home" since I resonated so strongly with the ideas contained therein - my whole life I'd felt weird until that moment. But I did not wake up one morning and say "Hey, I think I'd like to become a Witch".
Why did you decide to become a Witch?
As I said above I don't think I decided, I think I found that the ideas contained in various materials I was reading resonated so strongly with what I was already feeling and doing that it just felt natural to keep going.
What do you get out of being a Witch?
Kinship with all things, connectedness to the old ones (or spirit if you'd rather), personal responsibility, joyousness, peace, a sense of the immensity of the planet, a fear for its life. A knowledge of purpose beyond mine, a sense of purposeful ability to shape mine...................

What makes a person want to become a witch?
I'm not sure if I would fall into that category. I believe that most people decide to become witches due to an appreciation for nature, a strong dislike for the majority of people or at least the way they act, and the hope that there is more to the world than material possession.
Why did you decide to become a witch?
I personally decided to study the occult and spirituality out of a desire to gain a measure of personal power that didnt involve succumbing to the will, thoughts, and attitudes of the common man. I felt from a young age that i could and should help people to become better than we are and I saw witchcraft as an ancient study that would raise me to the level of being worthy to lead or help people.
What do you get out of being a witch?
I have discovered in my short 21 years that almost everybody must conform to society in some way or another, there are certain things that you must do to exist in our modern society. We are bombarded with many stresses and challenges designed to break the average person down... my studies of the spirit allow me to rise above that from time to time.

I've always tried to "make things happen", whether it be trying to communicare with my animals, trying to get that horse over there to come to me, walking up to the local neighborhood dog that bites and petting him, make my step-father go away... It just felt like I've always been a witch, I just need to relearn it! What do I get out it ? The feeling of being in control of my life and destiny. I know where I'm going. I know there's a way to fix things that are out of control, I just need to study on it. Gentle Light Mollimizz

I was born into a Christian family, but always felt 'wrong'. I had an affinity with nature and when I was a lass kids could safely wander the local moors and woodlands. I can remember the day when I 'became' a witch, although at the time I didn't know what it was. I was sitting by a very small waterfall - just a trickle really, the bluebells were out and the air was filled with their scent, sunlight was dappling the woodland floor, I had the distinct impression of other worldly beings and I felt.........something. A sort of combination of perfect peace, euphoria and longing (oh no, how fluffy does this sound?). Anyway, I was about 9 or 10 at the time and although it was about another 5 years before I could actually put a name to it, at that moment I became a pagan and began searching. I'm searching still, but accepting who and what I was made me feel whole.

What makes a person want to become a witch? I really don't know...an understanding and appreciation of nature and the little things. The knowledge that there is more to this life than just living, that death is indeed only the begginning. I'm not entirely sure.
Why did you decide to become a witch? I decided to become a witch because it just seemed right to me. I had been raised in a "casually Catholic" home. Where I had been baptized and took communion. However my parents were pretty open to anything; in fact my mom i believe practices as doesa my dad. They keep their religion private to them. So I had been looking around for a religion that made sense to me. I studied a lot of them and had just finished my study on Buddhism when I happened across Wicca. I didn't really know what to think, it all seemed to be what I was looking. So I got more involved and bought more books and discovered that paganism was the way to go. That is fits me and I have been immensely happy ever since.
What do you get out of being a witch? peace and love

I think I would have to say that I just followed my heart. I have always felt like I didn't fit in, nature was just about the most calming force I had ever experienced. I knew that there was much I could not accept with "mainstream religions" such as killing others in the name of god, when he preached do unto others as you would have them do unto you....just didn't mesh. I consider myself pagan, not following any certain path, just what feels right for me. Mother Earth is my choice to follow. It means to me freedom to believe in what is right for me, not what someone else says I should believe...
Oops, sorry went a rambling there...
