What makes a person want to become a witch? Why did you decide to become a witch? What do you get out of being a witch?
I of course have my own thoughts on this but wanted to hear other peoples opinions first.

Hrrmmm- good questions Hedge. As I'm sure that is a very individual question, I can only answer for myself. Why did I want to become a witch? Well, I'm both Wiccan & a Witch-- I actually consider Wicca my choice and Witchcraft a "perk". I believe strongly in the forces and magic in the air and all around us in nature... I had noticed it and felt it ever since I was a little girl. Wicca and Witchcraft give me the tools and teach me the abilities I need to know in order to harness it and now work with it as well. Well, it appears I've answered most of your other questions in that little paragraph of mine, so I'll just leave it at that. ;D ~BB~

What makes a person want to become a witch? It didn't happen for me like that. I didn't just decide one morning that I wanted to be a witch, the feeling has always been there. I've always had an affinity with nature, and my hearth and home, and all who live in it, have always been sacred to me.
I mentioned to a friend years ago now, that I thought I was a witch. She just chuckled and said "why do you think that?" At the time, I couldn't say why...I couldn't describe how I felt, without sounding pretentious or nuts!
Then I discovered books on witchcraft, and it was like I'd come home ~ cliche I know ~ but that's how it was. The rest, as they say, is history. Why did you decide to become a witch?See above *points up*What do you get out of being a witch?Spiritual satisfaction, awareness and happiness, a purpose in life - alongside being a mother and a wife, an ability to see the sacred in all natural things and appreciating the beauty in everything, and having the ability to make desired changes in my lifeGood topic Hedge. It really makes us question ourselves

Good question: Without getting too deep I would say that essentially it chose me.

Hey Hedge, Well i guess in a sense i've always known it, when i was a little girl my father sensed it also, He used to take all of us kids to the mountains often to see all of natures beauty. so as children we learned to appreciate nature and all she has to give us. We used to go rock hunting . My mother is also a "original" kitchen witch she is still professing all her remedies! they have been tried and they are true

For me it was much the same, wicca found me and although my family are devout catholics and i was raised as such I new growing up that something was missing, then whilst in America 13 years ago I was talking to a freind and he told me all about wicca and I new instantly that was what was missing in my life, and now here we are 13 years later and i could not be happier, and even though my mother does not approve she respects me enough to let me follow my own path

What makes a person want to become a witch? I don't think it is really anything that makes a person become a witch cause you can be like wow I know how to do this spell that makes me a witch. To become a true witch it is all your daily life it is you. Why did you decide to become a witch? I was born a witch. My aunt raised me into the witchcraft ways. But I decide to do it. Cause I felt naked not having it as my life and now it is means more to me all the way. What do you get out of being a witch? All life has a meaning. An I live as I live and will die as the earth gave me life and I will come back to bring another life into this world.

I'm not so sure I could be called a witch, wizard, warlock or any other term you want to put out there. Back in the 70's, a series of events kind of put me on a path to try to understand just what it was that I had seen and experienced. I studied various religions and "accepted" beliefs. I dabbled in both white and black magic, attended gatherings (more discussion groups than application) of a Satanic Order in Veron B.C. and a Wiccan coven in Vancouver. At one point in my studies, I had attained a level of "ability" that I was able to cause a man in his mid 20's to have a heart attack (he had just slugged his wife/girl friend in a restaurant at the time, so it seemed appropriate). For the next 30 + years however, I did little or nothing. Now, since I've changed my life style, it's been almost like a distant voice calling me. As a result, I'm getting back into it. I think I may have posted some place that, in the past I never used or thought much of "tools". Strangly however, I'm finding certain items seem to be, I don't know... "communicating" with me. As I already posted, a week or so ago, I was drawn into a rock shop where a number of stones and gems "just felt right" in my hands. A month ago I purchased an Athame. About the same time I was give a branch of an Ash tree so I could make a wand. I say it was given as I "felt" the tree wanted me to have it.
No, I can't say that I selected this path. But I'm on it.

I started out just wanting to understand the universe then I sort of tripped over paganism then witchcraft, I got sort of adopted by an older witch who passed on her knowledge. She told me lots of stuff which seemed pretty mad at the time. One day some years later I got this connection with the universe that seemed to pull everything together, so thats pretty much my story in a very short version.

Well this will make me seem all fluffy bunny and new age, but I believe I was born a witch but into a christian family. I have always been interested in the occult and When I saw the film 'The Craft' I read up more on Witchcraft. Since finding out about it I have learnt that my heart is that of a (good) witch. Although I am still finding my way, I have been more fulfilled, and my life may not have improved materialistically but definitely spiritually. I did not join a bandwagon though. Finding this path has given me answers to the things that previously i thought were odd. But they weren't. They are my gifts. And I intend on harnessing the power to build on my gifts. ;D

I hate that expression "fluffy Bunny" Just because some chooses to be focus on the positive aspects of life, some narrow minded ass came up with a demeaning term attempting to put them into some second rate classification.
There are far too many sites out there that specialize in putting people down, that are controlled by "alternative" special interest groups, determined to use paganism to destroy paganism. Don't buy into it. You are you. You have a set of values that gives you comfort. And when it comes right down to it, when the sh-t hits the fan, what you believe is all you are all you really have! To quote the poet... to thy own self be true.

What makes a person want to become a witch?
I have read above that someone did not become a witch by choice but it chose them. I would say that sounds about right. I am going to add that for me it goes a bit deeper I feel like I have come home. This is what I have been working towards all of my life, I just am.
Why did you decide to become a witch?
The more I read about Wicca and Witch craft * I am both* the more it sounded and felt right. It was not an over night thing but it was a gradual process, one that seem to run away with me once I said yes.
What do you get out of being a witch?
Happiness, contentment, satisfaction, love, feelings, and many many more things. It is most certainly worth it simply because it is what is right for me.
