You asked for a thread and here it is. Dec 21, 2012. The End of the World or The Start of a New Calender? For some time, News Papers have carried the story, books have been written and movies made. All playing on the scary theme of the end of the world. Vertually no one has been talking about the alternitive...but why should they? That doesn't sell or make money does it? Here's one story I did find presenting the alternitive answer. www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2080941/Mayan-calendar-December-21-2012-wont-end-world-says-Leonzo-Barreno.htmlBut what do you think? Why do you think it?

Watershield, you rock! I agree. First we had 1999 and the coming apocalypse when we changed to the year 2000. After we got over all that, 2012 started. For years we have heard that the world is going to come to an end and there is going to be a zombie apocalypse or something weird, however, you are completely right - that doesn't sell books or tickets to movies! There are hundreds of theories about the great galactic alignment and the shifting of the poles, aliens coming through this gateway to earth....the closer we get, the weirder it gets. The Mayans predicted the end of an age, not the end of the world. I think we are privileged to be alive at the time of the galactic alignment which occurs only every 26,000 years. I think this should be a time for us to reflect on our lives and goals and begin to sew seeds of goodness and kindness for our mother earth and our fellow man. Will there be some kind of event that occurs at this time? Who knows. Maybe... but I do not think aliens are going to come through the gateway and reclaim the earth and their "children".... We are living in a time of great change that we have brought upon ourselves by our wasteful use of resources, pollution, global warming, and just downright meanness to each other. You reap what you sew...Remember well the rule of three, what thou doest returns to thee! We are beginning to reap what we have sewn. I could go on and on about this, and maybe will post some more. I plan to be at the production of "Saint George and the Dragon- A Winter Solstice Celebration" presented by my sons school (done every year on the solstice). I will be celebrating the "New Age" with family and Friends, sharing a wonderful play, laughs, and friendship. If the world does happen to end, then where else would I want to be? I can think of nowhere better...

One of the stories is that some planet by the name of Niburu or something, (a small sun) is going to return from a distant orbit and we all get burnt to a crisp. Given that this is November, I would have thought it would be visable by now. Frankly, I just don't buy into it.

Been giving this some thought.
I had grown up hearing about how the world is going to go through a big change or be destroyed, about having stuff stored up for if things get bad. What ever is going to happen will happen. All I can do is try and be ready for it and go on living a good life. And hope for the best, but be prepared for the worst.

Not sure how that plays into the Destruction of the Earth theories but interesting no doubt

One thought is that the Earth will flip on it's axis so north becomes south, and we are tossed into an ice age that will last..who knows how long. There is evidence that this has happened before and has lasted thousands of years. Can't get ready for that. Even a nuclear winter..... Back in the 50's bomb shelter's were all the rage. But when you think about a family of 4 locking themselves into a room 10x10, under ground....really...how long do you think they would last?

On Friday Nov 9 the History channel here in the states is airing something on 2012 theory...I cant remember exactly what. They have had lots of programs about nostradamus, surving an apocolypse ect, and even brought my faviorite.....zombies...into the mix. Also ther have a series called ancient aliens which is interesting in some aspects but most of it is kinda weird. Some of the theories are so far out there I cannot believe people get paid for that! But I guess it serves its purpose cause people watch the programming...me being one of them. I enjoy mindless entertainment at times, however there are people who really believe that stuff. It concerns me that some of the hype may cause a panic.......

These TV shows really give me the giggles sometimes. I usually have the TV on while I work and listen to the news. I did hear there is a show coming on in a day or so...something about "why is man still here?" As if there can be an answer to that one.
These shows really are not about presenting fact, rather they are about selling advertising slots and making money. In a way kind of like the Presidencial debates recently!

Being from some place other than the US, we don't get swamped with the BS. We do get enough of the stories to hold, in my opinion, an objective point of view on the subject.
The biggest problem America has right now with the political system is the Super Pacs. Big money funding their candidate due to a special interest, saying what they want knowing it's not true, some stuff that the average person would be charged with slander for saying.
Bottom line...if you can see through the games and one up mans ship, the Republicans are ready to hand the government over to the oil companies and other big corporate interests. Under Romney, Wicca would be outlawed and numerous social programs would be privatised ot cancelled.
If I could vote (and I really think I should be allowed, given the affect your politics has on Canada) I'd vote Demicrate across the board.

Ryan scares me. If there was an anti christ, I think it would be him. Just to slick, came out of no where, and has the ear of the extream right.
