I have a small question.
What is the best way to cleanse crystals?Imean what is the ideal way, and how do you cleanse your new crystals?
I have a small selection of crystals that I have collected, but have not cleansed them yet as I am unsure of what to do.
Any help would be great.

There are as many different ways to cleanse crystals as there are people that will answer this! Usually, I will wash the crystal, burn incense, then let it sit in one of my crystal clusters over night. I have also done a fast cleansing by sprinkling with dirt, then pass through water, incense, then blow on it for a few seconds. With new crystals I cleanse with the moon. I also do this every few months with all my crystals, more often if I've been doing a lot of healing on different people. I start on the night of a full moon. I have a silver tin that I place my crystals in then fill with sea salt, set in my window, and leave until the next full moon. Then I remove them and empower/program them for use. If I am not going to use them right away, I will either leave them in the container of salt, or place them on my altar where no one will touch them. Hopes that helps a bit ;D

haha i think i have funny ways of clensing my crystals but i'm doing whatever intuition pops in my head ;D . i'll toss it between my hands and picture dirt flaking off of it. . i'll grip it, like squeezing it, and i would picture the negative energy imploding inside of it, or something. and then blowing on it as if blowing dust off a book. . holding it in my hands, visualizing the inside of the crystal clearing up if the crystal is foggy. . rubbing it with a clean or special cloth. . gripping it like a doorknob, opening a door. . knocking on it with my knuckles like a door. . i would hold it in the incense smoke, on top of my fingers letting the smoke trail through them and around the crystal. burning away negative feelings like paper and blowing (the ashes away) the crystal. . or even talking to it in my mind.. purswaying (sp) it to shape up or to cheer it up, or even filling it with whatever emotion it want it to be. i like to get creative with it. i guess that works. or maybe it doesn't. either way i feel silly. but i think salt is silly.

I don't like using salt. Each to his/her own.
I would never cleanse a new stone that I'd just bought for the reason being that the stones energies are what attracts me to buy that particular stone in the first place.
However I do cleanse stones that I use as they pick up energies all the time and appreciate a good cleansing now and again (a bit like us having a bath - it feels good right!)
In the past I have used incense to cleanse them (waft them through the smoke). Frankincense is particularly good, but my favourite method of cleansing is to leave them in moonlight. Particularly during a full moon as the moons energy is enhanced. Just place in direct moonlight overnight. As with moonlight you can cleanse your crystals by placing in direct sunlight too. The crystals can be placed outside (in safe areas) or on a windowsill for 8 hours. Note: Sunlight may damage some crystals because of the strong sunlight rays, especially Amethyst, citrine, smoky quartz, rose quartz, agate, and many other brightly coloured crystals.
The last time I was in Glastonbury I took all my stones with me and placed them in the little Chalice Well outlet to let the water pour over them - this would work with any clean natural water too. Just check that your chosen crystals are safe against water damage. As a general rule crystals that end with "ite" are not safe with water.
Another method is to place them in the ground. Crystals came from the earth, this is where they were created. By placing them back into the earth for 24 hours it is like returning them home for a holiday to rest and regain their strength. I would not recommend this for any highly prised possessions, as there are things in the soil that may scratch and mark your crystals. Also crystals that do not like water may be affected by the water content in the earth you place them.
All methods will cleanse and charge your crystals.

Further than that, porous stones, such as pearl, limestones, and etc. should not be washed with water. You don't want to see your stones in fine grits eh?

First I cleanse mine with a smudge stick and then with my Tibetan Singing Bowl. After that I carry it around a lot and rub it in my hands - kinda like VeryStrange said.
I also like to moonbathe my crystals - especially my new ones. Almost every full moon I put my crystals out and charge them - unless I'm using them, of course!
I cleansed my quartz crystal wand in sea water when I first started out but I've since learnt that that probably wasn't a good idea, lol.

theres lots of ways. running under water, burying in the earth, leaving out under moon or sun etc. but you have to check cos not all crystals can do all things. some are damaged by water (as has been said) sum are damaged by salt (as has also been said) and some fade in sunlight. But i dont know which are affected by what so i cant help with that sorry.
I cleane mine with sound, like Shadow Kitten i use a singing bowl. it makes a really penetrative sound and i sorta imagine the crystal being purged of all energies. dont do this often though, i have so many it would take me for ever!!! sometimes i also say a chant as im cleasinging them.
AFter you cleanse your crystal i think its really inportant to charge your crystal. not necessarily to a purpose, but usually just leaving them out under a full/new moon or the sun (remember some fade) will do the trick. I like to moon-bathe my crystals also.
Shadow Kitten, i dont think that cleansing with sea water is a bad thing, especially not for quartz. ive never heard anywhere that salt water has an effect on quartz. and salt has great cleansing properties (tho i wouldnt leave a crystal in a bowl of salt)

As you know your Crystals will absorb all sorts of spells, and emotions and so on.
The best way to cleanse your Crystals is to run them under cold water, then place them in the sun for a few hours, if there isn't any sun, Visualise a Bright white light, radiating down on the cyrstals. but try under the sun first.
All the best.

mine get washed on a bright sunny day and then laid out in the sun...apart from those that are water soluable of course.. they go straight out in the sun. I`m fortunate enough to have a west window and get all the afternoon rays..and thats where most of them live, in the west windows of my home.
