I didn't know where to post this but here we go!
Colour Magic is very simple but yet effective. It can be powerful and can be rich in symbolism whilst being quick and simple to master. Most books on Witchcraft and Wicca include a chapter on the aspects of colour.
Within the Craft there are many basic colour associations. Such as:
Red = Fire, Lust, Passion, Power
Blue = Water, Emotions, Intuition, The Changing Nature of Things
Green = Earth, Nature, Jealously, Luck
Yellow = Air, thought, interllectm planning
These are just a few ideas, there are many books which whole tables of colour correspondences, they are a very useful start to experimenting with color in your magical life. I reccomend you make a personal list of what colour associations feel comfortable to you.
Many pagan traditions assoicate colour with the four elemental directions, however they dont always agree. Some show North and Earth with Brown when others use Green. For East and Air some use Yellow when others use Blue. For West and Water some use Green or Blue. The south and Fire can be either Red or Orange. These are just a few examples of many associations, the best thing to do is to think what colours you associate with each element and direction and use the ones which seem the strongest or the most appropiate to you.
The Sabbats also have colour association, One practice is to use altar decorations which involve these colours as you celebrate the turning of the wheel. There are some colour suggestions are listed below but feel these to adapt these as you see fit:
Samhaim = Black
Yule/Winter Solstice = White
Imbolc = Yellow
Ostara/Spring Solstice = Blue
Beltane = Green
Litha/Summer Solstice = Gold
Lammas/Lughnassadh = Orange
Mabon/Autum Equinox = Brown
Colour can be used in a range of different ways in your magical practice. It can be used easily in spells such as candle magic. If you are doing a spell for good luck, you may wish to use a green candle and maybe consercrate a green charm to carry around with you. If you are doing a spell for banishing negativity you may wish to use a black candle and the element of fire. Again use the colour associations that feels right for you.
Another way to utilise colour is by incorporating crystals into your workings. The simplest method is to use your colour associations in selecting a crystal for magical or healing work. One method I like is to employ the Charkras. These are wheels of energy and each person have seven major ones arranged in a line up the centre of the body. Each chakra has an associated colour and resonates to a different sound. The chakras and their colour correspondences are:
Root chakra = Red
Sacral chakra = White
Soloar plexus chakra = Yellow
Heart chakra = Green
Throat chakra = Blue
Brow chakra = Indigo
Crown chakra = Violet
To combine crystals and the chakras is pretty easy and is useful, especially for healing work. For example, if you have a nasty cough, that would be assoicated the throat chakra. If you wanted to help the healing process, you could utilise a blue crystal such as Lapis Lazuli, which would be the colour assocaited with the throat chaka, and charge it with healing energies. It is best if you wear it in a blue pouch around your neck, or wrap it in some blue cloth and keep it in your person, in your pocket or pinned inside your clothes.
After doing a spell, whether for luck or healing etc, you can further use colour in the way that you dress, I used it once when I had an exam. I had worked hard revising and I was a little nervous I would panic in exams and ruin my efforts. I did a spell involving a light blue candle and a blue pouch in which I put some of the wax from the candle and a light blue crystal and I kept it with me. On results day I will make sure I'm wearing something blue!
Aswell as using clothing to ultiilse the magic of colour, coloured water can also be used. This can be done in a few ways. Food colouring can be added to water to make a desired effect. The water can then be left to chargein the sun and/ or moonlight and then drunk to fill you with the properties. Coloured bottles can also be employed. Over time a collection of bottles made from glass and filled with water can be rather useful. Again leave the bottled water to charge before drinking.
These are just some of the wonderful ways that you can use colour in Magic. Thank you for taking the time to read.
