I think the best magic we do is our inner magic. When I do candle magic, it gives me a sense of peace, of transforming my mind and thoughts into creativity. Candles help heal my mind, body, and spirit. After each devotion I feel empowered.
As with any tool, the candle merely helps to focus your intent. Candles combine several aspects into one. The flame is a dancing, living energy of color, scent, and light. Candles can be used for meditation, divination, and empowering rituals and spells. As the candle burns, it releases the energy needed to accomplish your goal.
Before I begin a candle ritual, I clear my mind by meditating a few minutes. Usually I am seeking personal enlightenment, but at times I have a request so I take these few minutes to focus on my wish. When I feel completely centered I light the candle(s). I imagine the flame empowering me. If I want to fulfill a need, I imagine the flame as a symbol for that desire. For me this visualization is a critical aspect of my candle magic.
I watch the flame as it flickers and changes, feeling the connection with the living energy around me. As the candle burns, I can feel myself floating on the energy the candle is pulling in. If I have a need, I repeat it aloud several times as I focus on the flame, affirming the outcome of what I want to achieve. I stay in this meditative state until I feel completely at peace within myself. If I had a need, I let it go into the flame for the Universe to grant, or ignore.
In closing the meditation, I thank the Lord and Lady for giving me strength, and for hearing my request if I had one. It is important to ground yourself after each meditation so the built up energy does not tag along with you and cause havoc with your psyche.
I have a few candles set aside specifically for meditations. I don’t use these candles for anything else, so I let the candle burn through my meditation then extinguish the flame, using the same candle over again. The strength of the meditation is within me, and the candle is merely a focus point so a new one is not needed each time.
