Why do you perform magic? What do you think you achieve by performing magic?

Good question Hedge...
I live a magickal life every single day. This might include lovingly tending the garden and willing my plants and herbs to grow healthy and strong, taking a magickal bath and willing my worries away, comforting my children when they are upset, or cleaning the house in order to banish negative energies and calm my soul.
Another method I use in order to banish negative energies, as well as to keep the house warm, is to light the fire in the kitchen and visualise all the bad energy being drawn into the flames and going up the chimney.
Even cooking is a magickal act to me. When I use fresh herbs from the garden, I can feel the energy off them and sense their healing powers.
I do my best to project positive energy toward others, in order to make them feel good...although this isn't always easy, and I do get my bad days. I've also learned to shield myself against other people's negative energy.
I'm constantly aware of my actions and realise the possible repercussions of them...perhaps too much LOL, and sometimes they do come back and bite me in the ass....but at least I expect them to....I'm prepared for it.
The point of it all, is that it gives me a sense of inner peace and calm, purpose, control and spiritual fulfillment. I couldn't imagine living my life any other way.
I don't do what you call 'ritual magick' very often....only when I or someone else needs a little boost. More for others mainly.

Yea, this is a good question. I guess to put it really simply ( if there is such a thing anymore ) I perform magick when I need a boost in achieving my goals. Magick comes in many forms to me, prayers, poems, growing things, making love, making friends. The possibilities are endless. I guess I also perform magick because I believe it helps me to stay connected, to my friends and my faith. I have many mundane distractions in my day to day life, and to come home to my altar feels so refreshing. I think magick helps me to learn and grow in ways I probably haven't even figured out yet, and for that I am glad. Who wants to have ALL of it figured out anyway?

Goth you have a wonderful way with words For me magic isn't about spells and trying to change the bad stuff into good stuff, or getting others to bend to my will. Life is a learning experience for everyone, and the good as well as the bad teach us something. I try to keep this in mind especially when the bad is happening to me or someone I love. I am new at doing rituals & spells, but the ones I am performing are to help others see the good during bad situations in their life, and to help me be stronger in my life. Ok, I have done a few spells to try and prevent others from doing harm either to the environment or to other people. I've used crystals for healing and protection for many years, and see this as a way of helping others. I believe the good energy I put out, and share with other people, helps balance some of the negative vibes in todays world.

I do magic to give a project or a goal I'm working towards a boost. It can be small like lighting a candle and making a whish, or a huge ritual calling for aid from many dieties. Depends on what I need.

I just feel amazingly happy when I preform magic. The satisfacton I get from preforming a spell or ritual and seeing it work is priceless. Somtimes magic can be hard and frustrating , but I have learned that it's always for a good reason and I end up learning from the situation.

Is it trouble cosentrating? or getting all the bits you need? I've heard a lot of people say they find it hard to perform ritual or do magic. Now i know I'm not blessed with super human powers, my spells either work or they don't. I'm just curiouse about what people find difficult. Totally agree with you on the post magic euphoria though

Well if it's a ritual that takes a lot of will and consentration it can be hard. I also make my own herb mixtures, potions, insences, poweders etc. and sometimes it's difficult to get it just right the way i want it. I enjoy it though. I'm currently trying to learn scrying and it takes a lot of patients which is hard for me lol. Even though it can be hard though, I enjoy it a lot.

Scrying is a pain in the ass when starting out, but I found it to be worth while, this might sound strange but try doing it on a rainy day.Don't know why, but a dull rainy afternoon realy helps me focus.
