Hi all, I would like opinions on "Spirit Boards" I was told that a Spirit Board (which looks just like a Ouija board) has "build in" safeguards that will not allow anything "bad" to get through unlike a Ouija board which will let anything through. I also find that most people are afraid of Ouija boards. Some people won't even allow one in their house. My question is, what is there to fear about Ouija boards and is a spirit board indeed different or just the same thing with a different name. My opinion is that a board is just a tool no different from tarot cards or a crystal ball. I don't believe that there are evil spirits out there just waiting for a chance to hurt me. When I see the fear that many have concerning Ouija boards it reminds me of the fear that organized religion uses to keep people in check (but maybe that is just me and my experiences with religion) Of course I might be wrong - I often am. And no, I have not used my Spirit Board yet, just in case. What do you think?

I don't have any experience with Spirit Boards OR Ouija Boards but I can't possibly imagine what the difference between the two would be, Magickhappens would probably be the best person here to advise you. My opinion is that a board is just a tool no different from tarot cards or a crystal ball. I don't believe that there are evil spirits out there just waiting for a chance to hurt me. When I see the fear that many have concerning Ouija boards it reminds me of the fear that organized religion uses to keep people in check (but maybe that is just me and my experiences with religion) I happen to agree with you 100% on this. I do know the ouija board is a divination tool like Tarot cards, and as such should be treated with the respect that all divination tools should be shown.

While I do agree that the board is just a tool, it very much has a lot to do with your perception before you start to use these tools.
Tarot cards are tools to tell fortunes, see the future and answer deep questions. But Ouija boards are dark and evil, designed to communicate with the dead or demons.
See what I mean? Perception shapes intent which in turn determines the result.

Why are they Dark and Evil? What are the spirits that they try to contact? If my intents are not dark or evil will the outcome be dark and evil? I don't mean to be difficult, I really don't understand.

LOL....I should have said that is the generally accepted view of those not familar with them.
Energy is neither dark or light, good or bad. It just "is". Available to be reshaped by the user.

I think that one of these boards even a ouija board could be used safely if you knew the proper precautions to take. Making a circle, cleansing the area, being ready with banishments and bindings.. etc. Its in essence like a seance isn't it? The problem with Ouija boards is they are a magickal tool, a quite potent one that anyone can use even the people who don't really know how... Half believing in things that fully believe in you...

Well, I think your right to a point Des. ANY tool can be used Magically" by any one.
Look at how many kids pick up a stick and wave it around saying abrakadabra. To them it's a wand and they are casting a spell.

i thought a Spirit board was the same thing as an Ouija board? there is another version called a Witch board btw. but I've never heard of anything being built into one for safety. when you use these boards you are indeed doing a se'ance or the theory of subconscious moving to receive a message from the unknown. (when tested blindfolded the panchette {the pointer} simply wandered about the board. although this also helps my theory that the spirits are using your energy {eyes, hands} to communicate). i don't believe these boards are anything like the tarot or crystal balls. the tarot is based on intuition, and the scrying of crystal balls are a whole other story. i believe that Ouija boards are like guns, safe IF YOU KNOW HOW TO USE THEM. learned this the hard way guys. long story. i strongly advice being safe and secure when using these. these boards are tools and a window to another side. and they work very well. NEVER, I'm gonna repeat that-NEVER- under ANY circumstances. use the board ALONE. when scary shit happens (<- more than likely if you're new to them), you don't want to be by yourself. for one, you're scared more than if you were around other people (these people should be people you trust), and you need to think clearly. the problem about being alone is not only fear but also the factor of (dare i say it), becoming possessed. possession does not usually happen the first time using one but nothing is predictable when it comes to spirits, demons, and how safe you really are. plus you should have a witness there with you if any phenomena should happen so you don't think you're just going crazy. most of the time when spirits show themselves only one person, even in a large group, will see them, its all about who the spirit lets see them. PRAY FOR SAFETY. never underestimate the power of a prayer. pray for guidance and the safety of whatever you believe in. also helps to envision white light around your area and the board. another tip for safety is the cleansing of the planchette {the pointer}. this is made by holding the glass window over a flame for a few moments. i think bought boards feature the planchette as wooden, although i wouldn't know as I've never seen one in person. the boards I've used were homemade. i would draw out my board on a large piece of paper and put a sheet of glass over it. my planchette was a small glass cup, sometimes a baby food jar. i put a mirror facing up under the board and this seems to help communication. whatever works for you. if the planchette starts to go through all the letters and/or numbers in order, this means that whatever you're speaking to is trying to get out of the board. also it could move in circles. flip whatever you're using as a planchette over and continue to use. if you want to stop or you want them to leave, say something like 'i bid you adieu', 'its time to go now', or sometimes even 'leave me alone, go away' is appropriate, (always be respectful to the spirits), and move the pointer to the spot on the board to say goodbye.

I don't actually believe it is spirits guiding the planchette - I think it is our own subconscious that guides it. And in that repsect it is very similar to other forms of divination especially tarot and runes.

Why are they Dark and Evil? Because Hollywood portrayed them that way....the same as they did for witches and magick. Not true of course. I don't actually believe it is spirits guiding the planchette - I think it is our own subconscious that guides it. And in that repsect it is very similar to other forms of divination especially tarot and runes. I agree totally.
