I'm feeling very...isolated tonight. Isolated isn't the right word...reflective?
Maybe it's just old age sneaking in on me and contemplation of the mortality of man. All things are transient. That really doesn't scare me. Just as we are born in our time we must pass. Our need to know what happens after death is based on our own fear of the unknown. Then there's the age old question...why are we here? Buddha says that we are here to suffer. And in that suffering learn to turn sorrow into joy, hate into love, greed into sharing.
But each of these is an extreme. With each example noted there must be a middle path, a balance. And it's trying to find that balance that is the greatest challenge.
Tonight is a dark night...no moon. Great for laying under the stars and staring into space. I think I'm going out side to see if I can spot a belly button out there!
