So the Dalai Lama is on tour again and made a visit to Canada. PM Harper had a behind closed doors meeting and all the media is in a rage. Is this a slight to the Dalai Lama, are we more concerned with trade agreements with China than Tibet?
Time to get over it I think. So China took control of Tibet and now claims the territory. The Americans took the land from the Indians and kept that. History shows control over England was a constant tug of war between the Saxons and the Normand's. Russia took control over everyone around them to form the Soviet Union. That's the way things have been ran on Earths since the dawn of time. The strong rule and the the weak serve (and bitch under their breath)

you're so right Watershield, HHDL is over here in UK now, but as I've been away from news on solstice celebrations I haven't noticed if he's met the currently ruling popsies or not

I have been doing some looking around since my initial rant. Turns out the DL only represents less than 1/3 of the population of Tibet. Tibet, like many other countries is broken up into various sects and these sects have been at war with each other since at least the seventh century. Tibet was a territory of China for a very long time but during ( the date evades me, I think it was in the 30's) the down fall of the last Emperor, more attention was being given to forming a central government and many of the territories were left to their own accords. During that time, Tibet declared Independence and moved to re establish the DL as head of state. China refused to acknowledge their Independence but offered to allow the DL to remain basically as governor. That was rejected with Tibet declaring war on China, which they lost. The current DL and staff had to scurry out of Tibet when he was a child, but he has been attempting to work the sympathy factor on the various nations around the world to gain their support to get him back on his golden throne. That a snap shot view. It's really worth looking some of the history of Tibet up and seeing it for yourself.

I think in any event, no matter who their leader, spiritual or otherwise is, China's treatment of Tibet is delorable.

I think in any event, no matter who their leader, spiritual or otherwise is, China's treatment of Tibet is delorable. But it's not just China. Any country it seems that does not function under a democracy has the same type of reputation when it comes to human rights. Power corrupts and absolute power corrupts absolutely! And then...Britain's treatment of Tibet was no better when they annexed the southern provinces of Tibet and ceded them to India. It's all a matter of perspective.
