Hello everyone!
I joined this site about a year ago and intended to become a regular, but a lot has happened since then that kept me busy afk. Well, I'm back... I hope for good this time! Since it has been so long, I thought I would reintroduce myself.
My name is Allen and I am a 44 year old gay male. I live in Wytheville, Virginia USA with Randy, my partner of 3 years. I was married for 20 years before that, and have a 16 year old daughter named Tiffany. I do production work at a local factory which makes advanced engineering grade plastics which are used in engines as well as in the oil industry. I practice an eclectic mix of paganism, primarily a shamanic henotheist with a little wicca and druidry thrown in. I have been pagan for about 3 years.
I enjoy reading. I like Science Fiction (Frank Herbert's Dune series, Jack L. Chalker's Well of Souls books and post apocalyptic books), and Fantasy (C. S. Lewis' Narnia books and Tolkien's Lord of the Rings). I also enjoy reading Shakespeare (The Tempest, A Midsummer Night's Dream, Hamlet and MacBeth are my favorites) as well as Charles Dickens (A Christmas Carol), Ray Bradbury (Something Wicked This Way Comes and The Halloween Tree), and Edgar Alan Poe (The Raven). Other favorites include anything by Charles De Lint, C. E. Murphy, Holly Black, Karen Marie Moning, Mercedes Lackey, and any urban fantasy.
In addtion to reading, I also enjoy learning Scottish Gaelic, calligraphy, walking outdoors, camping, playing in the snow and autumn leaves, solving Sudoku puzzles, playing role-playing games (Dungeons and Dragons, Gamma World, Blue Planet, Shadowrun), writing, homemade blackberry jelly, drinking tea (favorites include Irish Breakfast, Earl Grey, Constant Comment and Chamomile - I dont care for green or white though - too bitter), and making new friends on message boards. I love Celtic music (Capercaillie, Clannad, Enya, Maire Brennan, Runrig, Mary Jane Lamond, Dougie Maclean, etc). I also love Fleetwood Mac and Stevie Nicks, as well as Evanescence, Sarah MacLachlan, Loreena McKennitt, the Eagles, Doobie Brothers, Journey, and Celtic Woman.
Favorite movies include: The Dark Crystal, Close Encounters of the 3rd Kind, Pan's Labyrinth, The Village, The Seeker, The Golden Compass, Heavy Metal, The Lion The Witch and The Wardrobe, Prince Caspian, Bridge to Terrabithia, The Harry Potter films, The Craft, Hocus Pocus, Practical Magic, The Witches, Bell Book and Candle, The Witches of Eastwick, The Good Witch and The Good Witch's Garden, The Crow, Spiderwick, The Seventh Stream, The Secret of Roan Inish, Fern Gully, The Secret of NIMH and TLOTR, for starters.
Favorite TV shows include Charmed, Bewitched, Dante's Cove, The Lair, Wolf Lake, The Dresden Files, Blood Ties, Northern Exposure, Dark Shadows, The Munsters, The Addams Family, Scooby Doo, Star Trek (the original series, TNG, and Voyager), and Forever Knight. I'd like to see True Blood and Hex.
My heroes are the TRUE heroes - those who give of themselves to help others: Teachers, fire-fighters, policemen, rescue workers, nurses.
I do not enjoy watching sports and find it offensive when sports players are called "heroes." I try to avoid watching television at all when possible. Other dislikes include rap music, any kind of metal music, opera, bluegrass, war movies and westerns, large dogs, snakes, spiders, black licorice and jelly beans, sweet potatoes, pumpkin pie, grits, hominy, oatmeal, tequila, white and green teas, and raw onions.
