I've been living in my home for over two years and my neighbors tell me that the deer come in our yards all the time and how beautiful they are...my son even told me the other day he saw Trysta chasing one of Santa's reindeer...and the neighbor across the street told me she saw one standing next to my house the other night...she almost called me because she thought Trysta got out...(since she is missing her tail people have mistaken her for a deer at times...this was the first time a deer was mistaken for her) anyway...this morning...I finally saw them...they are White Tailed Deer and there was about 8 of them all young ones...my crappy camera was only able to barely get the closest ones... here they are...

We've got about eight Deer that make the rounds here. Every now and then a real nice buck comes through the area. Mostly Doe's and yearlings. So many deer here in Victoria they are becoming a real road hazzard.
It was about this time last year one got hit by a car out front. Broke both legs on one side, so rather then leave it in pain, I put it down. It was two days before the SPCA came to remove it. They advised that it would be dropped off at the dump. Used to be they would use road kill for dog food. But no one knows how to butcher it or cook it so it goes to the dump.
A new law has been passed so that road kill can now be salvaged by the home owner or driver. So if you know what your doing, at least the deer won't go to waste.

The are doing a lot of new development right up the road and it's disrupting the deer here also...recently we were driving and one just ran right in front of the car and we missed it by inches...it seems though, because the main town roads are still only 35 mph, the deer generally do more damage to the cars than the other way around. On the Hwy behind my house, that's another story...
The one that Alex saw Trysta chasing was a buck...he told me all about the antlers.
I'm not a big fan of deer meat...although I did eat alligator over Thanksgiving...my brother-in-law is a big hunter in Florida and just started catching alligators, he brought is last catch to the butcher and had them make sausage out of it...then made spagetti with a marinara sauce, it tasted like spicy chicken...who knew?

Alot of folks eat Alligater....once. Not that it's bad, but can be a tad "fishy" tasting.
When it comes to meat, the old saying really is true...."you are what you eat". If a bear is eating garbage, it will taste like garbage. If it's been in the wheat field it taste like beef. Gaters eat fish. So........

Okay...someone lied to me ! I thought Canada took the roadkill and brought it up into the hills for the wildlife and that kept the bears and such from coming into town ?
