Look what I found hanging in the pool filter this morning... It's a baby Banded Watersnake... once my son gets home from school we are going to bring him over to the park and let him go in the pond...the internet says he would prefer fresh water to chlorine They are not poisonous but tend to be aggressive (hence the plastic bag) but for now he's quite content in his temporary home...

He's cool - I like his little temporary house. I used to catch grass snakes with my brother when we were younger so snakes have never been a problem for me.

I'm a big fan of snakes...I used to have the coolest python when I was 18...Samson...he died though...dopey snake ate a mouse backward and it wound up killing him...
This particular species is medium size 4 feet or so full grown, but they get darker and it becomes hard to see their bands...I'm curious to see if his mother is still around...we are far enough away from the preserve and the water that he really should not have ended up in my pool...(actually we are just on the cusp of where these particular snakes are even found)...I know we have a snake that lives under my shrubs next to the pool...but I figured it was just our common black rat snakes...now I'm not so sure...they give birth to 15-20 young at time in July-Aug...so I guess I will know soon enough if more start showing up in the pool...
