This is sort of half dream half vision...
background: about a month ago one of our greyhounds, ShutEye passed away in his sleep while at the kennel...I was devastated with a lot of guilt that I did not get to say goodbye and that he died without me...he was with our other Grey Trysta, but she was in a separate run. He was cremated and his ashes are in an urn in the curio cabinet in our foyer...so, he will still be able to greet our guests when they arrive.
about a week after he "came home" I woke up as usual around 3:30am...it's my stupid sleep pattern which usually then takes me a good hour to get back to sleep...well...I'm up and clearly awake but still lying in bed, and I hear Trysta come back into the bedroom from the guest room, but while she is walking in the doorway I also see a white sort of silhouette dog head come in the room with her...it came in at a weird angle...so I assumed it was ShutEye coming to visit...then the dead dog smell hit me and I was now quite sure it was ShutEye...so I told him he was always welcome to come but to please knock off the smell...it went away...I closed my eyes and was immediately hit with this vision:
ShutEye standing behind the storm door in my foyer looking out to me, I must have been standing on the front lawn. Both his ears were standing straight up, something he only did when interested in something...he was beautiful and looked younger than I had ever known him to be (he was 7 when I rescued him) but the strange part was...he had two dark brown patches on either side of his head near his eyes...now Shutty was a very tall white and brindle dog...but by the time I got him his face was all whited out with age and you could barely make out the patch over his left eye...I never knew him to have one over the right one...
so I let it all go, and went back to sleep...
a couple of days later my son tells me he had a dream about ShutEye...he said the dog was standing by the staircase (in the foyer) and he let him pet him, but he thought it was weird because in the dream he knew Shutty was dead so how could he be petting him...my son is 7...I immediately asked him what Shutty looked like...if he remembered any patches on his head...he said he did...but he only saw the right side of him, but there was a patch of brown by his eye, I asked if it was whited out or bright brown and he said definitely bright brown...now again...the right side of his head is the one I could have sworn never had a patch...
Now I'm all intrigued and start looking through the pictures and sure enough...I found one of when I first got him 4 years ago where on the right side of his head you could barely barely make out that once upon a time there had been a brown patch by his eye...
Then about two weeks later I have a dream...this was definitely a dream this time...Shuteye was lying on the floor in this place I had never been...he looked like he did right before he died, face all whited out...I sat on the floor with him and held him and just petted him...in the dream I knew he was dead, and was just appreciated the moments with him again...knowing it would be hard to let go and not looking forward to having to...he just stayed in my lap. Then I woke up and for the first time since it all happened felt at peace and the guilt was gone.
I've told a couple of people about this and they think it's all my imagination...
if it is my imagination, I'm ok with that because at least I gave myself some closure...but, I thought I would just throw it out to you here and see what you think...
