I have a few Tarot spells that I got from the book that came with the deck that I believe will help me greatly in my life, however they require candles (though the focuse of the spell is the cards themselves, from what I can tell the candles merely provide additional energy), which are not allowed in my home. Neither is incense...what else could replace the energies provided by the candles? If you wish for more info I can post the spell...

Are you talking about the artificial candles with the little electric bulbs on top? I love those! I don't know if they sell them at any other time, but there sold in abundance around Yule/Christmas.... I totally forgot about those.

Very true, vampire - it is not the effect, but the flame. If you cannot use the flame, do not use a substitute, there isn't one. If you tell the Goddess that you are doing a vision spell - i.e. one that you use both your eyes, and your 'sight' you will see the candle in your 'sight' but there won't be one there. That is sufficient to create the effect of flame, as needed by the ritual - using an alternate light source will not work. This means the exact intent of your spell will not occur, something might, but not what you wanted. For all the laid back open sense of the Pagan life, there are a few things we are not supposed to mess with, and traditional rituals are one of those things.

Plus: If you had incense lit then the glades smell would contradict the aroma you are trying to create!

Hmmm....not sure I agree with this at all. At the end of the day the only tools we need to perform magic with is our minds.

True, Hedge, we don't need anything, but I was led to believe that those who perform rituals with prescribed objects cannot substitute any other object to get the same result. It has something, apparently, to do with the subtle beings that assist with prescribed rituals.
Personally, I do not use, nor need, anything at all to do anything that I decide to do, but I am also led to believe that many people need ritual and objects specifically prescribed for the ritual. By that logic, I presumed to state that to use a ritual object, you need the actual object not a substitute.
Also, extending logic, it would be possible to rewrite the ritual, to include anything else you wanted to use.
