Merry Meet friends, it's been a while. One of my friends is an eclectic, but when I looked up some sources about it that path, all I could find was that eclectic wiccans 'use what works' is there any other info out there that would help me understand this path? ;D

Hello you Good to see you here.
From my understanding you've summed up eclectic one hundred percent.
Eclectics take bits and pieces from all sorts and they really do suit themselves.
In my opinion this is a far more spiritual path than adhering solidly to one or the other (say Thelma or Gardenian etc etc) as a spiritual path is ALL about the individual reaching enlightenment in their way and not necessarily the way of others.
God I don't mean to offend anyone with that statement but that is my opinion.
What works for one person may not work for another - but then again it might (like the way I covered my tracks there? ;D)

Lol I think so Hedge. What I've understood about Wicca is that it is a path that pulls from all places and peoples. So when I heard about this path, I was confused. But I talked to my friend and he agreed, being Eclectic is the very idea of being wiccan. He said that eclectics were a special breed. I don't think you'll offend anyone here because we all have level heads . I wonder if there are any Eclectics here that could enlighten me further? And so I wonder, for those of us that are solitary or not following a specific path, would that make us Eclectic?

Hey, welcome back CH.
Well, to a certain degree, I think the only people that arn't eclectic are those in a coven following a set chain of events within a tradition as directed by thier leaders.

I started out eclectic then settled to Seax Wica but I seem to be evolving if that is the correct term. Not sure what to call myself at present, Pagan Witch is as a good a title as any. I practice Kitchen Witchery and have Saxon deities but still drawn to Bast and Isis maybe I am just one mixed up witch.

I think I'd have to agree with you there Watershield. Most paths or traditions have a set pantheon or....group of deities that they focus on and use. Their rituals are governed by those same lines. Whereas a solitary practitioner of a pagan craft may pull from anywhere they choose. I also find your story funny Aura. That someone you knew didn't respect you because of your tradition, until she learned that you followed many of the same ideas though you had different paths. I am coming to realize how very diverse our pagan paths are, but how we are still held together by the basics. I think none of us should forget that no matter the tradition or path.

i think that everyone follows the basics, even if their eclectic, gardnerian, seax, faerie etc etc, they all believe in god and goddess, ther rede etc etc etc, unless your dianic, but most of them still acknowledge a god, even if they dont worship him

Not every one see's gods as "Gods". I believe in the personalities of them, but see them as equals to man. Maybe older and wiser, but more the sense of our guides

My God and Goddess is the energy that flows through and all around us. They are the energy.
I recognise that they can have different characteristics but that is all energy as well. Energy can make you feel happy, sad, loved, lonely....it's ALL energy. When someone calls on a God for guidance or worship - they are seeking those qualities that the God represents.

I have never belonged to a coven and thinking seriosly about what I am doing and have decided it is time to make changes and go back to doing things that I was happy with. I do not seem to be able to fit in with things and do not like having to follow what someone else says I am to do. So I am now working out exactly what I want and will go with that. Time changes everything nothing stays the same forever and we are no differrent. Changing things is part of life and we should never be afraid to look at things and make the appropiate alterations.

Couldn't agree with you more wulfcwen. None of us are the same people we were yesterday and tomorrow we will be different too. It was that way of thinking that prompted the subtitle for the forum here.

One of the reasons that I chose this path was besause it allowed for change. As I learn and grow I am able to incorporate new ideas into my practice. If it works for me then I keep it as it is or I can alter it to fit me and my needs. I am not made of stone so I see no reason to make my spiritual journey a fixed routine. It grows with me.

I agree about change, from what I have studied of the craft it is always underlying that change must, will and always is happening. The god and goddess go through the changes of the wheel as we must as well, I think that if we didn't allow change in paganism, then it wouldn't be a true earth path. We are equal to the flowers, the rivers, the sand, and we are the god and goddess, no better or worse. And so we change with them, we change like them. This always fascinates me.
