I think the reference to being addicted to AP was more in tone with being addicted to chocolate cake. An experience that you are compelled to repeat because of the enjoyment not a dependancy.
As to walking in AP, why not? I can't say with any degree of certainty what you may have experienced nor can you about mine. I know that when I did do it, all I had to do was think about being someplace and I was there. To look across a room, seeing something of interest and suddenly being beside it. I don't ever recall "walking" but that's not to say some one else may experience that means of transportation.

Good point, watershield. Just because I do not "walk" in AP mode doesn't mean that it is not possible. I think that people who expect to be able to walk around probably, in fact, do. I have found myself (or my "point of conciousness") in the predicament of being millimeters (or less) off the ground and "sliding" uncontrollably. Ambulating in an AP is a personal challenge of mine and it would be stupid of me to assume that everyone is challenged in the same way.

There are risks to Astral Projection that are commonly overlooked, because simply they are not common and are more likely to happen through Channeling, at times there can be spirits or energies, negative ones mind you that will attempt to disrupt your energies or feed off you, however in most cases since positive energy is around one thousand times more powerful than a negative thought, generally such energies cannot do any harm to you, unless you let them of course. There are several occurances that are refrenced as "Hitch-hiker Ghosts" that attempt to bind themselves to a person, such has actually been a cause of Schizophrenia for some people, in which such energies had to be excorsized from said person, resolving the issue.
To put it plainly, there is nothing to fear but fear itself, if you feel your energy levels going down, generally it is a wise thing to reconnect, if you do not immeadietly reconnect already. The only way known that a person can be harmed while astral projection (Not physically, during projection) Is if they willingly allow negative energies, among other things come with them.
That's off the top of my head so correct me if i'm wrong. But I hope it helps. ;D

Well, I agree that there are entities out there (I refer to them as shades) they are attracted by fear and repeled by confidence.
But in truth, if a person developes that sort of fear during ap, they would instantly be drawn back into their physical body.
I'm not familiar with any documented case of a "hitchhiker" but then again, I've never really spent any time researching the possibility.

my first experience with AP was actually an experiment in my parapsychology class handled by a famous paranormal practitioner in my country of origin. I become addicted to it for quite a time but stopped when i see a scary looking old woman beside my bed ready to go in my physical body. i was so scared that i did not continue with my AP
Where did i go? during the experiement i was asked to go to the apartment of my seatmate and describe it to check whether it is really AP or just fantasy. I've never been to her place but was able to describe exactly everything they asked. from that time on, AP becomes a usual past time for me whenever i get bored (teenagers!)
what did do? i just observe and take note of the thing i see and feel during the first time. however, after that first experience, i've done some crazy stuff like spying on the exams, spying on my crushes, etc...
how does it feel? floating in the air. just wish to be in the place where you wanted to be and you'll be there. however, you feel so tired when you wake up in the morning.
actually all of us has some pre AP experience. it usually ocurs between sleeping (physically) and waking up. it is when you feel that you (or part of your body) sudden fall down. that is a sign that your mind is willing but the body is not.
regarding the thin cord that they were mentioning which connects to your body is being used to get back. many believed that if your physical body has been moved and/or touched the cord will be broken and you'll die. i don't know about this but during my younger days, whenever i do AP, i make sure that the room is locked! my classmates are more daring as they are using AP to copy during exams!
is it like walking when you move? what do you mean "you move"? when you go to other places? sorry but in AP you don't walk...i can't explain it but it just happen that you'll be in the place where you would like to be by concentrating like bilocation...
unfortunately, WS i was not able to go to Bermuda Triangle as I wish. no matter what i do, i just can't. i always land in the same place where i was

This topic always interests me. I was never able to fully project myself out of my body, except for maybe in my dreams where I had a slight suspicion about whether or not the dream was my minds fabrication or an AP... weird. I always got scared when I felt like it was about to happen. I would get this feeling of being big/small at the same time and "out there", then other weird sensations and I would just start thinking that I'm probably gonna die if I keep this up. I would get so worked up my mind would be like.. "unh uh, go to sleep until you can decised whether or not you really wanna do this, lol." ......yeah....
I used the rope method too, to acheive the little bit of progress that I made. I've heard that AP or OBE's may enhance one's intuition as well, so for those of you that have been successful with this practise, would you say that this was so? I imagine that I would have much more confidence in my abilities, at the very least, had I managed to be successful with this endeavor.
