Some of you know that I have a background in Native American culture, and I find myself once again involved with a Native American called Night Hawk, awho has been helping me come to terms with some of my newly diagnosed illnesses. He recently went back to New Mexico and brought back some bundled herbs he thought might help with my cough. He said it was called Navajo Tea Plant, but did not know if it had another name.
It happened that when Night Hawk came back to Wyoming, I’d had a sore throat for a few days and was headed to what I thought was going to be an ugly bout of cold or flu. I made my first pot of tea, had a few swallows, and my sore throat was gone! ;D I slept better than I have for months, and the next day felt wonderful. My cold/flu is gone.
Now, I wanted to know more about this plant so did some research. Come to find out, the plant IS called Navajo Tea!
The American common name is Greenthread. There are several varieties of Greenthread, growing primarily in New Mexico, Arizona, Colorado, Texas, Oklahoma, Wyoming, and Nebraska. Variations can also be found in Nevada, Utah, Montana, and Alberta, Canada.
Greenthread is in the same family as Bidens plants, which are used in Chinese medicine. A variation of Bidens is found in Hawaii, called Kookoolau.
I interested, you can purchase Greenthread in either bundle form or tea bags on various websited. I did a search using "Navajo Tea"
I’m definitely going to try growing this in my herb garden!
