While it is alarming to read that such things happen, I suppose we can't be totally surprised.
Why is it that when Christians hear "witch" it's automatically bad? Why is it that when anyone hears "Pagan" the think witch?
Can't they see that a Buddhist is a Pagan as is a Hindu? Can't they see that the rituals performed in the Catholic church are not all that unlike those done many witches?
What I find interesting is that Christians "love and tolerance" yet are the first to persecute. At the same time, I'm not aware of Pagans persecuting anyone.

^umm The romans were Pagan and they killed Christians. But I know what you're saying. Looking at the article I don't think the perpetrators were proper practicing Christians, just the local Chavs and their spawn looking to make trouble out of what should have been a peaceful event celebrating their faith. While I've not come across it much in my own religion most faith seem to attract a militant 1% that don't seem to get that every religion no matter what it is has the same basic message: Love your God/s/ess and each other. I call these people assholes.

One of my favorite quotes....
When are you people going to learn? It's not about who's right or wrong. No denomination's nailed it yet, and they never will because they're all too self-righteous to realize that it doesn't matter what you have faith in, just that you have faith. Your hearts are in the right place, but your brains need to wake up."
Why can't people realise that how wrong the 'I am right and you are wrong' attitude is? everyone has the right to believe in what they wish to believe in - NO-ONE has the right to make or expect someone else to have the same views.
arrrgggg the only thing that makes me angry in this world.

That's disgusting. Glastonbury is a beautiful, peaceful town, full of spiritual energy and friendly people...I could actually 'feel' the energy when I was there.
Methinks the town could do with a cleansing after that little episode.

It is startling that such ingorance and intolerance still exists. I was at Witchfest International last week; in a talk by Ronald Hutton entitled "why do people fear witches" he expounded on the subject: they fear us because they are worried our power actually exists. When we were considered charlatans, there was nothing to fear, but now it seems people are once again beginning to believe in magic. He urged all of us, to be circumspect in our speech. And I, for one, agree with him. We should do well to remember the witches' pyramid: to know, to dare, to will and possibly most importantly of all: "TO KEEP SILENT". Blessings

as water said we can't really be surprised. May the goddess and god open their minds, and let up be thankful for each other and the ones around us who love and accept us for what we believe. May those people find peace and acceptance. Goddess protect them.
