Spirits

OK I am going to throw a spanner in the works on this one. My ex wife is a medium and a dam good one she dose not use her skill to earn money but to help people.
The term medium is a relatively modern one but the skill is not, the skill is the same as the shaman or the witch of old contacting the spirits of other worlds including the realms of the dead. She also travels to other worlds and contacts all sorts of spirits. Most of the results she has obtained are checkable and I always do check.
It is a pity that commercial so called mediums have duped people for so long and coursed those who have a genuine gift to be so distrusted.

I think that Riverman has a valid point as it relates to his experience, just as Brandra does.
Each of us perceive the universe in different ways, so why not how we interact with spirits, ghosts, or what ever you want to call them/it.

There are a great many fakes, being very cleaver in the way they give out information in order to obtain information for their next "revelation" These are the ones (for the most part) that are very public. When they get it wrong, everyone knows and the opinion that all mediums are fakes grows.

But there are also, a number of very real and talented "mediums". Most of them are not well known in the press or on TV. They work quietly and help people because they can. Not for the glory.
Some times you may hear how one has helped a police force or some such, but for the most part, they remain in the back ground.

I thought these people were actually 'psychics' not mediums. Working from items of clothing or jewellery, or visions.

It's all the same for a medium a good medium will be able to do it all. You cannot be a medium without the psychic skills.

I am sorry that some of you have had bad experiences with mediums but there are some good ones out there for many it is an inherited gift that has been in the families long before the spiritualist Church and long before the term medium was ever used.

I think it is possiable to get into contact with the dead if you have had no contact with them, however it would be more difficult and what would be the point? I know if I was dead I wouldn't want some random stranger interupting my after life!
I think a "let them come to you approach" is much better.........
Unless it's zombies............If you get zombies run away!!!!!!!!! - just my little joke ;D

There are some slight differences in the two terminologies and one isn't automatically skilled in the other, but they do tend to be used synonymously.

Psychic

Someone that calls himself or herself a psychic may well be labelling themselves as such because it is stereotypically recognised as someone that can 'read you' and most likely be able to tell you about, your past, present, future and many other things that the psychic could not possibly have known about you before having your reading.

This essentially is correct, but how they do this in the true sense of the word, is that as a psychic they will have like a 'mental connection' with you and they will also read your energy field, so they will be very sensitive and be able to pick up on your thoughts and energy most of all. People will tell you that you are psychic if you know who it is when the phone rings, for example.

Medium

The simple version is that a medium is someone that 'talks to dead people'!
(Now the boy in the film Sixth Sense would be a clairvoyant/medium, because to quote him " I see dead people!")

The harder version is that a medium by another definition is the 'channel' by which information from spirit passes through or indeed is the channel through which any energy passes. By this definition all of us indeed are mediums (as opposed to smalls or larges…sorry, couldn't resist getting that in somewhere!). This is because we all channel energy to some degree or another. If we draw, we are a medium (as is the pencil) through which energy flows to create the picture on the page. If we sing, we are a medium (as is the voice) through which energy flows to create a song. If we are healers (another topic entirely) we are mediums through which the energy flows to our clients and so on…

This then means by its very nature that anyone working with Spirit or energy on any level could be called a medium. A medium in this sense is then being defined as a 'channel'.

I'm going to keep an open mind on the topic, I think. At the moment I'm prepared to ascribed to the various different plane/realm thing I've found in a number of belief systems; Vodou, for example.

yes but how can you call anyone really dead. YOu just leave a body and take a new one. I mean wow later on I will have no use for my body and I become a spirit once more. But its great that people are that connected to the spirit world and I could or can reach out to them.

Spirits? Ghosts? Faeries? Here's my thoughts…

SPIRITS, also called Angels, are our guides. Our spirits are with us all the time, whether or not we listen to them or believe in them. They literally guide us through our lives. They teach us lessons, encourage us to live moral and ethical lives, and show us what path we should be taking. We choose to listen and act, or not. Sometimes we can see our spirits, as in animal totems. We can usually feel our spirits with us, especially when we have a major decision to make, or something drastic is going on in our lives.

GHOSTS are trapped souls that have unfinished business on this earthly plane. These souls can sometimes manifest themselves to persons known to them, or to true psychics and psychically tuned people. I have seen ghosts of relatives when they have passed away. One example of this, while I was living in Germany my uncle, who lived in Iowa, came to visit me and say good-bye. I knew he had passed before my parents called the following day. Some ghosts who died tragically can become "stuck" and need encouragement to move on.

FAERIES are a race of enchanted beings that use glamour and illusion to fit into human society. The Fey of old lived in underground dwellings so as not to be disturbed by mortal man. While some of the Fey probably still live underground, I believe most are walking among us.

So, that's my definitions of these entities.

i have to say i have had a run in or two with some so called mediums who about 2 years after i had my little girl told me that when i became pregnant my first child would be a boy to which i just chuckled this was at the same time telling me of other things they said the wanted me to know stuff they said i needed to find out, so i aint really in to the belief where mediums are concerned if any one can prove better then i say let them try but it would take a lot to convince me..

As far as spirits are conserned well i haven't every saw anything questionable i have however in the past few months when been doing things cought thing out the corner of my eye but theres never been anything there.. pass!!! adn as far as seeing anything properly dear god would i love to see someone who i knew visit as some off you might have read in sanctuary i have a major fear to which i think seeing somthing properly would put an end to for ever..

but untill then i stay open to the idea..

OK - I am a hearer - I can talk to and hear 'spirits', so therefore, yes they are real !
I have the ability to smell and hear but I do not see them (except my gaurdian angel) so saying they are a load of hog wash is just what some believe, as they have never been proven wrong ! I do not use my gift for money (just as I don't use Tarot etc for financial gain) but I have conversed many a times with the departed. Of ourse they are there, you just have to 'want' to hear/see/feel them.

It's good to hear from someone who has had direct experience.

In conversations of this type, "most" of us have never experienced anything directly and are going on supposition or a belief based on theory.

How strong is your connection? Do the spirits share information about people?
