When you hear of mediums conversing with spirits, what do you believe these spirits to be? Do you think they are dead people? Do you believe that mediums can communicate with dead people? All your thoughts on this matter appreciated.

This is going on my own beliefs, and the deductions I have made so far, not everyone will agree, but thats the way I like it The medium is conversing with faeries, which are the spirits of dead ancestors or could theoretically be dead relatives. When a Celt died he was buried in a mound, we can find these mounds throughout Britain and Europe in various states of repair. Over time(in Brittan these became known as sidhee mounds or fairy mounds. Throughout history people have been conversing in one way or another with the spirits of these mounds IE faeries. In more recent times there have been sightings of ghosts around the burial places of the dead in my view this is the same thing as seeing a faerie on a mound, it just follows a different tradition (God I hope this is making sense!). In short, I believe there are people in the world with a gift to see and commune with "spirits" how they refer to them and see them is just a case of their culture and tradition. In my case I call them faeries.

Thats an interesting Idea pixiedust I will have to think about that one. If we really are spirit why not faeries? It would make sense.

When you hear of mediums conversing with spirits, what do you believe these spirits to be? Honestly? Figments of their imagination due to an extreme greed for money ;D No, definately not. No. Mediums are a relatively modern concept, started around the 18th century. Nearly all of the earlier 'mediums' were proved to be frauds, some even admitting to being frauds...years later. Take Derek Acora and John Edward.......PLEASE! Those people are a waste of TV time and an insult to people's intelligence. Have you noticed that John Edwards' 'spirits' always seem to mumble their answers? Years ago, mediums supposedly recieved definate messages from the 'spirit world' ~ like "aunty margaret says this, or uncle Henry would like to say that" etc. But the spirits in John Edwards' world don't even know what their names are! LOL E.G. "I have a 'G' name here...Maybe George, Geoffrey, Godfrey?" Oh, come on, doesn't everyone know somebody of that name? When the recipient says "I don't know of anyone in the family with that name" Edwards replies "a neighbour, friend maybe?" He's certainly leaving his options open, isn't he? Also he doesn't pin point anyone in the audience in particular....it's always "somebody over there, in that area of the studio." Don't you think it's amazing how he is able to concentrate with all the studio lighting, cameras and people around? I read somewhere once, that before the show, the production team go around the audience and get them to fill out small questionaires about themselves.....hmmmmmm? It's all HOOEEYY!!!! Just for the record, my great uncle was a supposed medium...used to go into trances too......whatever ;D

Oh I agree totally, there are a lot of bull sh<>?trs out there who exploit grief for profit, they make me sick. However, normal everyday people have a history of seeing "ghosts" even hearing them speak or seeing them move things. I find this more difficult dismiss. I work in a hospital, before I go any further I must point out that you will never meet anyone more down to earth than a nurse. They have been telling me of apparitions and spooky things that they have seen since I started working there. None of those people are making a bid for attention, truth be told a lot of them are embarrassed to talk about it. Still more confusing some will tell you they've seen a "ghost" and then say they still don't believe in them, which I find odd. I think there are people who have the "gift" they just choose not to acknowledge it or keep quiet about it and use it for their own purpose.

I totally agree that some people see or feel ghosts in certain places. However, in my opinion, a ghost is not the same as a spirit. A spirit is supposedly the soul of a person that has passed on....and that soul continues to go on. A ghost is the highly emotional memory of a deceased person, that has been recorded into the atmosphere. Usually of a person who has died tragically or unexpectedly. Their last actions are replayed over and over again. A little like how a camera and tape recorder works. Just my twopenneth

That's fine But how would you define a 'spirit'? Just out of curiosity Because to me, the spirit is the inner essence of a person, the soul, not the physical form.

When you hear of mediums conversing with spirits, what do you believe these spirits to be? Yes and no. I mean some mediums just bullshiters and all but the ones that can feel that aura of life that you had while you lived in your body shell they can say more about you. I mean I can't see spirits with my eyes in this body I know that. But I know how to cross over into that world as I need. But I have never had a medium sit in my room and ask me if I am dead or not. Do you think they are dead people? Noone if really dead. Unless you completed all you needed to in life. Which will be never. If you had a goal you will come back. You had a lover that was taken from you. You will be back. I mean I know I have come back to take a new life again and again. Somedays I wish I would not come back and be dead for once. But I know my lifes work and goal are not complete and till I find them I will never really be dead. Do you believe that mediums can communicate with dead people? Yes and no. But why are you asking me this question when you can go find a person that is a medium and ask them. Hard to say when the human race can lie to your face so they can live.

To me a spirit, ghost or faery are one and the same. I think they are souls of ancestors/the dead who are sticking around to help the living out and can be contacted when needed. How they appear to the person who sees them depends on the culture of that person.

Take Derek Acora and John Edward.......PLEASE! LOL!!! Goth - you're explanation of a ghost is the best I've heard yet and it makes complete sense to me! It's how I would've explained a ghost were I as well at expressing myself as you. Do you believe in spirit guides and if so can you explain what you think they are? That question goes to everybody else as well.

The Spirit is the essence of your being. It's what makes "you". For lack of a better term, it is your soul. When the spirit leaves the body, the body is nothing but a bag of meat. Just as the Bus Driver. When he turns off the key and steps out, that bus is a rusting hulk of metal. The Spirit has awareness, otherwise you could not Astral Project. Until the body ceases to function, the spirit remains connected to it. Once that connection is broken, the body dies but the spirit continues.
I have seen a ghost. She seemed aware of where she was, but not when. She looked at me and I could see she was clearly confused to "see" me in that place. What was she? I think she may have been a spirit. Possibly, when one grows more attached to a place or other person, more so than they care about "Themselves", it may be possible to form an attachment to that place. (note: an attachment, not a connection) But because they are (generally) existing in the "astral" they do not have full understanding of the daily changes in the "real" world and are confused when they do interact.

As for my own belief, I do not believe in mediums, they are out for the $$$$! shame on them, I get so mad when i see them on the tv. I do not believe in Sylvia Browne, John Edward. No, I do not believe that mediums can communicate with dead people. I do believe that when we die our spirit is still "here" or wherever we want it to be. I agree with Watersheild our spirit is the essence of what we were, or the memory of what we were, I believe when we die our memory does not die. I say that because I sometimes feel like my dad or my brother is around me. My dad comes around when something is going to happen in the family, I see him if only for a glimpse at my mothers house, My brother "visits" me in my dreams. even though i cannot comunicate with him i feel like he is there with me, hope this doesnt make me sound like im a loon but.... It's just me rambling. As i've always said no one knows the power of the human mind.

Let me inject something here..I believe in communicating with the dead. But, someone who has no connection with the deceased person cannot contact that said person. I am in contact with the dead that lived within my lifespan, and had contact with me. Friends, grandparents, my son and my father, aunts, Uncles, and Cousins that have pre deceased me into the other world. But in no way can they contact, or be contacted by so called "meduims". We live in our world and when we pass, we can only contact those that we knew. that is my opinon, and my expierence.
