A few weeks ago, we noticed that a rabbit had moved into our yard. Flowers nibbled, catch a glimpse of her every now and then.
Last Tuesday, I spotted what was left of her in the neighbors yard. Looked like a stray dog caught her. Today I was working in the yard, pulling dead plants out of flower beds, etc. As I pulled on one very large plant, a Bunnie jumped out. A tiny little thing, know more than 10 days old or so. We looked around and in no time came up with three more.
What got me was the way we were able to walk to them and just pick them up. Didn't ever try to run. So there in a hutch now and we are going to keep them. Grand kids are ecstatic.
Shortly after getting them into their cage, I went to make a cup of coffee. As I stood there looking out the window, I had a very clear image of Danielle, the kids mom, in my mind. She was laughing at me and I heard her say "got ch'a". Yep, getting the kids bunnies just before Easter is exactly the type of thing she would have done. And it looks like she did!

It's a shame they had to loose their Mom so early, but I'm glad you are there to take care of them for now... What are they jacks, cottontails, domestics ? Gentle Light Mollimizz

Most likely a cross. We have rabbits to the extent of an infestation here in Victoria. I think they have some Dwarf in them.
A few years back, the hospital was infested with rabbits. Seems some one thought that if folks dropped off unwanted Easter bunnies, they could be relaxing for the long term patients. Well, dozens turned into hundreds, then thousands. By Laws won't allow killing them so they continue to "enjoy nature". Some Engineer students thought it would be a great idea to catch and relocate them. They caught 250 on one weekend and relocated them to the University Campus. There now thousands of them there and they are spreading out over the surrounding areas. While you still can't shoot them, the city did take out an ad in the paper last year with instructions on skinning and cooking rabbit.
Department of the Environment will not allow them to be moved to the wild as the are not hares or indigenous species. Health department will not clear them for feeding to the homeless as they are "wild meat" and not subject to Department of Agriculture inspection.

That's too bad... The wildlife could benefit from the food. Might help keep them farther away from the public ?
