I can't see it very well, but I don't think it's quartz. Looks to be formed by water, the stalagmite / stalactite idea. A form of Calcite comes to mind, but I'd need to do some digging.

I did that...downloaded it to the desktop and enlarged it- but your enlargment's better ! It does look like stalagmites... Any caves nearby ? underwater ones ? Gentle Light Mollimizz

Beautiful!!! I believe it is a type of cave crystal, something along the lines of Molli's thought process. Keep us up to date on what you find out.

How big is it? Nothing nearby in the pic for scale It's the size of a BIG Walnut. WS - now I feel bad if that is what this baby would have gown up to be! I still think it's Quartz simply because of the vibrations. Incidentally Mr hedge found some more pieces - if anyone wants one pm me your postal address and I'll post 'em out.
